For a buoy mooring you need a permit from the relevant district authority and a licence agreement under civil law from the Bavarian Palace Administration as the owner. The permit and the licence agreement are valid for seven years. After this period your right to a buoy mooring expires and this will be assigned to someone else.
Because of the considerable demand for buoy moorings on our lakes, these are allocated on the basis of waiting lists. Please note that it may take several years before you can be allocated a buoy mooring. The waiting lists are kept by the appropriate district authority or our external administrative offices. More detailed information about availability and the allocation procedure as well as the contact details of the relevant external office can be found on the page for each lake.
Boats with combustion engines or electric motors can only be used or driven with a maritime law permit from the relevant district authority. You will also require a licence agreement under civil law from the Bavarian Palace Administration as the owner. This also regulates the amount of the usage fee, which is based on the type and power of the motor. Sailing boats and other watercraft may under certain circumstances also require a permit.
Information about the requisite maritime law permit and the allocation procedure – which is also to some extent based on waiting lists – can be obtained from the relevant district authority. General information can also be found on the page for each lake.
Motorized water sports equipment such as electric surfboards with or without foil technology, electric kayaks or electric canoes and the like are prohibited without exception on the lakes for which the Bavarian Palace Administration is responsible. Infringements will be subject to an investigation.
We have compiled a list of the lakes where diving is prohibited and those where diving with breathing apparatus is permitted in accordance with Section 21 (1) sentence 3 in connection with Section 22 of the Bavarian Water Law, usually referred to as the General Regulations.
Some of these General Regulations also apply to smaller lakes that do not come under the Bavarian Palace Administration. The General Regulations stipulate the conditions and requirements for diving with breathing apparatus, the particular area of the lake concerned and, in some cases, at which times of year diving is permitted. More detailed information about this can be obtained from the Bavarian State Ministry for the Environment and Consumer Protection .
Please contact the relevant district authority if you have questions about the General Regulations.
Searching the lakes and lake shores with metal detectors and other probes or devices is prohibited at all the lakes for which the Bavarian Palace Administration is responsible. No permits will be issued for this.
