The historic fortress above the town of Kulmbach can only be explored to a limited extent by people in wheelchairs and people with severe walking difficulties due to its topographical location and the structure of the buildings.
Holders of a disabled pass are permitted to access Plassenburg Castle by car. Please press the bell button "Kasse" at the access barrier to register. Two disabled parking spaces are available in the lower castle courtyard (Kasernenhof/ Barracks Courtyard).
The central entrance area of Plassenburg Castle can be reached via the so-called "Schöner Hof" (Beautiful Courtyard). The path from the Barracks Courtyard (disabled parking spaces) to the Beautiful Courtyard is not suitable for people in wheelchairs or with a walking disability due to the steep incline and granite paving. In exceptional cases, it is possible to drive to the Western Rondel in front of the passageway to the Beautiful Courtyard; please enquire with the administration on site by calling +49 9221 8220-0, our colleagues will be happy to help you.
