Myth of the fairy-tale king: reopening of the Venus Grotto in Linderhof Palace Park
Over 100 years ago, the Bavarian King Ludwig II had Linderhof Palace built and the park laid out, creating one of the most diverse and artistic ensembles of the 19th century.
The Venus Grotto is a particular highlight. This unique construction in the form of an artificial dripstone cave is the high point of King Ludwig II’s illusionistic architecture. Here he conjured up the first act of the opera ‘Thannhäuser’ by Richard Wagner and the Blue Grotto of Capri.
Following comprehensive restoration measures, the Venus Grotto is scheduled for reopening to the public in time for the 2025 summer season.
Visitors can then experience the staging in its original splendour, true to the historical original. For example, the shell throne and the crystal throne have been reconstructed and guests can now once again enjoy the enchanting, newly restored and illuminated shell barge and the Tannhäuser painting. Colourful lighting, babbling brooks and a wave machine complete the grotto atmosphere.

A word in advance:
The Palaces of King Ludwig II have been nominated for inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The UNESCO Commission is expected to make a decision on the World Heritage application entitled „Dreams in Stone - the palaces of King Ludwig II of Bavaria: Neuschwanstein, Linderhof and Herrenchiemsee“ in summer 2025.

Ansbach: an insider tip for culture and nature lovers!
Are you looking for a unique excursion destination that combines history and nature? Then come and explore the Ansbach Residence and its picturesque Court Garden – an insider tip in the middle of Bavaria!
The Residence, once the seat of the margraves of Ansbach, is above all well known for its outstanding interiors, which have been preserved in an excellent condition. Particular highlights of the palace are the ceiling painting of the festival hall by Carlo Carlone (expected to be restored to its full splendour from mid-March 2025), the art gallery and the Mirror Cabinet. With the 18th-century taxidermy horses from the margravial stables the residence also harbours a special rarity.
The Court Garden with its orangery opposite the palace is a green oasis for nature lovers. There is something special about a walk through this historical garden. With its artistically laid out flower beds, numerous tub plants, long avenues and medicinal herb garden it is a place in which to linger and relax.
Ansbach’s excellent road and rail links to Nuremberg (including a direct S-Bahn connection) make it easily accessible and add considerably to any stay in the metropolitan region of Nuremberg.

Tip: A further hidden" treasure awaits you only around 45 minutes by car from Ansbach. The impressive Ellingen Residence with its palace church and small palace park is also well worth a visit.

Marstallmuseum in Nymphenburg Palace: King Ludwig II’s state vehicles in a fresh light
The collection of state vehicles belonging to King Ludwig II in the Marstallmuseum in Nymphenburg Palace has been reorganized with great attention to detail.
Angled platforms alternate with a wall of light" with which the coaches are also illuminated from below. The sleighs stand on specially made acrylic plates as if on a clear, freshly formed sheet of ice. Both the technical construction and the magnificent decoration of the vehicles are a wonder and bring to life the history of the kingdom of Bavaria.
A highlight has been created with the presentation of the historical model of the Small Gala Coach in a new glass case. The highly elaborate model, made out of plaster and painted, was produced for King Ludwig II. The king inspected all the designs and often altered them several times.

Tip: Combine your stay with a walk through the extensive Palace Park and visit the magnificent Nymphenburg Palace. The harmonious combination of art, nature and history will make your visit an unforgettable experience.
